Forum: election_2004 Subject: "small" issues matter. SAVE LIVES & BAN CELL PHONES while driving..

This post will provoke RANTS from people who will cry"this will take away our freedoms and rights". Educated people say that motorists have no rights to kill or injure others. The EVIDENCE is positive that use of a cell(mobile)phone by Drivers results in a huge increase in the number of auto accidents. Many civilised countries have passed laws banning their use and imposing heavy fines as a penalty. Pemember that auto drivers must behave properly and not risk causing death or injury to other road users. Lets make this an ELECTION ISSUE

I agree. As I understand it New York City, where I used to live, has already done so.
The government harps on silly issues like smoking in bars and restaurants (which by the way, I might point out are private establishments) but does nothing about important issues like this one.

Do to their construction and lack of planning the highways of America are threatening enough as is without the added hazard of these stupid cell phones.

Everything that helps or harms our fellow Americans is important. Following the TRUE WILL of the American people is important.

The American people have said they like smoking tobacco products when and where they please, they like to use these drugs the government forbids, they want to be able to buy whores. I say give the people what they want. To do otherwise is to maintain a false government, that only provides bad government, which harms the people and turns the public into slaves.

Cell phones are a threat to public order, so we can't allow it. Seat belts are another matter, they're a personal choice. I think it's wise to use them but, if another is foolish and doesn't and dies because of his folly, that's his personal choice. 0ne can't legislate away foolishness.

It's a personal matter, like suicide, and should be left to the individual to choose it of his own free will. Although unlike suicide, the person whose foolish with seatbelts, may not actively wish to choose death but, the results may be similar.

everything? everything? "everything that helps or harms the people is an important issue?"
it what the people want right? your fellow americans right?
ok, ill bite.
you advocate prostitution and drug use (are there no victims in these arenas?) and cellphone free highways.
yeah, sure, SOME americans want the right to smoke anywhere, but what about those who hate SMOKE. yeah, some people like to use drugs, and then their are the addicts who hate the fact that "that shit keeps calling" them. yeah, some people like to fuck whores, but then there are are those who hate fucking nasty fucks who are willing to pay for it.
are these the issues really what most of the "people" are concerned about these days? or are they things YOU you think about on the drive home?
i dont take issue with your convictions on these specific issues (i more or less agree with the premises), its more with your priorities.
i could name a 1/2 dozen other issues that the people are really concerned with.

I smoke one or two cigarettes a day. It wouldn't bother me personally if they outlawed tobacco altogether. But, I maintain it should be the PROPERTY OWNER and, he alone, who decides whether or not he will allow them in HIS place of business. Prostitution, is one of the four Holy Institutions given us by the Gods, for the good of humanity, I wouldn't condemn it for my souls sake. I have never knowingly fucked a whore (although I might ad, both my serious ex-girlfriends were whores in reality), nor would I ever do so knowingly.

Cell phones, may not be a vital issue, nor may cigarrette bans but, they are issues. If asked, I as a candidate will offer an opinion, if I have one.

Driving is a serious occupation and requires his full concentration. He cannot do two things at the same time, drive and talk on his cell-phone. There is no room for argument because the facts support the ban on drivers using Cell-phones. Already most civilised countries have passed(or are drafting) laws banning use by drivers. The few states that resist this sane move( due to pressure by fanatics), will be ridiculed by the rest of the world and described as "hick" states.

The other day we nearly hit a child on his bike because he was busy chatting up one of his mates on the blower, instead of watching what he was doing on the road and what the signals were telling him and others to do. Thank the stars and planets, Heather Goldsmith is a very good driver or this kid would have been street pizza.

I say again, cell-phones are a hazard on the roads, so they MUST go.

Jack, you are right. But it takes a long time to get laws passed in the USA and I guess people will continue to use cell phones while driving. But if they travel to foreign places they had better stop because there are laws against it

I looked it up too. The fact that it takes so long to get laws passed in this country shows that there is a serious defect in the system.

I've maintained for years that the problem isn't with Bush & his baddies (although this gang certainly are EVIL) or any, one person or thing, it's with the SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT ITSELF. The solution is simple but, far from easy, scrap the entire system and start all over again.
